about

Homo erectus was presumably the first species of humanity, which spread beyond Africa. It reached Europe, Asia and even the Indonesian Isles.
Physical characteristics include a marked supraorbital ridge, apelike teeth, an average body size of 1.7 m (6 ft), dark skin and a lack of full-body hair coverage. Homo erectus used fire and tools, built huts and sea fit boats.

The species roughly lived 2 million to 35.000 years before our time. It died out because it was supplanted by Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis.

lyrics

Lyrics:
For countless generations we have lived here
Developed mighty weapons: hand axe and spear.
We've tamed fire and know how to survive
But now it's time to give another meaning to live.

We're not like those who sleep on top of the trees
Although we might have much in common with these.
They stay – we go, they guess – we know.
We hunt everywhere but they are bound here.

The children of our children need hunting ground
And regions where abundant food can be found.
We're spreading so fast we have almost no choice,
Traveling soul, led by an inner voice!

The safety of this place is blunting the mind.
Beyond horizons there is so much to seek and find.
Let's risk it, we will never return.
Ahead into the unknown, so much to learn.

One way or another:
Why do we bother?
Each path we tread
Brings us one step ahead!

Behold the endless waters!
There must be some way, be some way across!
Not knowing where we're going
Let us move towards the light of the morning sun!

The land of cold demands, attention and thought
And all the knowledge our elders have taught.
Improving tools they have invented ages ago
We’ve added in all the things we now know.

We're crossing perilous seas and mountains high.
The age of our rule is drawing nigh!
Thought and experience beat instinct and claw.
Unselfish and caring instead of brute and raw!

Curiosity, lead us!
Nothing can defeat us!
The regions we roam -
We now call them all home!

Storms and fires – more desires – less and lesser – food to find!
Sacrifices – forgotten faces – less and lesser – of our kind!

Is this where our story ends?
Continued by the new ones from our ancient lands?
Aeons of sacrifice!
We have sealed our own demise!

The new folks with high head
Might be the only chance we get
Because our old way of life
May not suffice for us to survive!

And no one will be left to tell.

about

Osteon Ruhpolding, Germany

Osteon was founded in 2015. At the moment, the band is working on a series of conceptual albums about the early history of humanity. Each song is dedicated to a different extinct species of (wo)mankind.
In being aware of our past, we as contemporary homo sapiens realize that we are all of one kind. Millennia of war and bickering become irrelevant compared to the scope of your common history.
